Dawn — reveals

Kindler

Light and warmth

A common Dawn practitioner who coaxes light and warmth, valued through long nights although no demonstration has separated the gift from ordinary skill.

commonRarity, not rank. A practitioner is one thing for life.

A Kindler coaxes light and warmth. Wet fuel catches, an ember lasts through a long night, and a lamp continues past the oil allotted to it. The Velyrian catalogue places the role at the common end of Dawn’s revealing braid because its work concerns the smallest and most ordinary manifestations of light.

The same modest scope makes the practice difficult to prove. Patience, dry tinder, and a steady hand can produce every result attributed to a Kindler, and no demonstration has satisfied a determined skeptic. Kindlers remain the most numerous practitioners on Dawn worlds and the least regarded, but long darkness gives employers little reason to settle the argument before hiring one. Aurel’s field crews and Sorell’s greenhouse keepers retain them through the dark months because the flame matters whether its cause is discipline, fortune, or the Twofold.
