Amoneth

City

Edrane’s largest reclamation city, where an inhabited core maintains and reopens districts built for residents who never arrived.

Overview

The Record

Amoneth was completed for a city that never arrived. Its avenues, towers, canals, transit lines, residential quarters, and industrial systems were laid out to make it the greatest metropolis on Edrane. The Shattering disrupted the trade, communication, and resources expected to sustain that growth, and those already present drew inward around the central power and water systems. The center remained inhabited. Beyond it, finished districts went dark without ever becoming ruins in the ordinary sense.

The boundary between those two cities is active work. Municipal crews keep the center supplied while preservation, engineering, and resettlement offices assess the outer quarters. Sextons hold sealed institutions and recover their records; Reclaimers return approved utilities, streets, and housing to use. A neighborhood may reopen beside one that remains closed because its archive is sealed, its systems have failed, or people live there beyond the current municipal map.

Amoneth has never been formally abandoned, and that refusal governs it. Each annual budget decides whether money goes to preserving finished emptiness, repairing essential networks, or extending inhabited life by another quarter. The city can reopen ground only as fast as it can supply and govern it. From above, the result is Edrane’s half-lit argument made physical: a bright metropolitan core separated from intact darkness by only a few streets.

Identity and Function

Function

Amoneth keeps central power, water, transit, archives, housing, and industrial systems usable while preservation teams hold unopened districts and reclamation offices return selected quarters to service. The city is both a functioning metropolis and Edrane’s largest test of whether finished but unused infrastructure can acquire a second purpose.

Identity and Function

Governance

Edrani municipal authorities govern the inhabited core alongside preservation, engineering, and resettlement offices. Municipal government manages active neighborhoods; the specialist offices determine whether an outer district can be held, repaired, or reopened. They disagree over priorities, and the annual budget decides which plan advances. Authority over the city remains Edrani rather than passing to the communities that enter a reclaimed quarter.

Environment and Travel

Environment

Amoneth fills an arid basin with geometric canals, elevated transit lines, towers, plazas, and utility corridors built to a scale the inhabited core never reached. Power, water, light, and regular service concentrate near the center. Farther out, intact facades conceal districts with isolated utilities, sealed institutions, failing systems, and occasional inhabited pockets omitted from current maps.

Travel Notes

Regular surface transit reaches Amoneth’s inhabited center from Eirenor and nearby settlements. Continue into an outer district only through an authorized municipal, preservation, engineering, or resettlement route. A dark street is not proof of vacancy: unstable utilities, sealed archives, structural failures, and unmapped inhabitants can all close access, and ordinary transit does not continue beyond the maintained network.

Culture

The Twofold

Sextons keep sealed institutions and recover records from districts closed by Edrani authority, treating preservation as custody rather than abandonment. Reclaimers restore utilities and communal use where a quarter has been approved to reopen. The division is practical as well as doctrinal: a Sexton can preserve what should not yet be disturbed, while a Reclaimer cannot begin until the city has decided that return is permitted.
