Overview
The Record
Serevan Crossing is small enough to recede into the steppe and important enough that every migrating house knows its rules. A fortified gatehouse, bridge keepers, storage yards, repair halls, and permanent families maintain the ancient stone causeway where several routes meet a broad river. For much of the year, open grassland reaches nearly to the banks.
Migration rebuilds the place at another scale. Herds, riders, traders, wagons, households, and mobile courts gather on both sides until markets and fabric halls dwarf the permanent settlement. Livestock changes hands, routes are renegotiated, and bargains made at the crossing can alter territories far beyond it. When the houses move on, that temporary city leaves with them.
The crossing council maintains the causeway and market customs under the neutral order House Tavrin keeps at Serevan. Visiting houses govern their own camps and acknowledge no central Rhovani authority, but accept the ford’s rules while they trade. That limited submission is the crossing’s product. Rivals meet here because neutrality is enforced visibly, priced openly, and ends at the edge of each encampment.
Identity and Function
Function
Serevan maintains the river crossing, repairs migration traffic, exchanges livestock and goods, and receives the mobile courts of passing houses. During the season it provides neutral ground where rivals can bargain without placing themselves under one another’s authority.

Environment
An ancient stone causeway and low fortified gatehouse cross a broad shallow river. Storage yards and repair halls stand year-round among open grassland. During migration, mobile halls, markets, herd enclosures, wagons, and camps spread far along both banks, then disappear again.

Travel Notes
The ford operates through most of the year, but floodwater can shift the approaches or close the causeway. At peak migration, livestock columns and house processions take precedence and may delay other travelers for days. Entry to the market does not grant access to a visiting house’s camp or court.
