Gloam — conceals
Occulter
The way closed
An uncommon Gloam practitioner who closes or conceals a route, giving authorized travelers access to ways that remain unusable to others.
uncommonRarity, not rank. A practitioner is one thing for life.
An Occulter closes or conceals a way. A passage cannot be found by traffic not given its course, a road reads as dead ground, or a door in an archive wall fails to hold a stranger’s attention. The route remains usable to those who possess the direction, making selective access rather than destruction the defining result.
The name comes from astronomy. An occultation occurs when one body passes before another and hides it from view, a familiar image in a system of thirteen moons. Velyr places Shadower, Occulter, and Eclipser in one concealing braid at increasing scope: attention, route, and mass. The distinctions describe what is withheld, not a hierarchy through which a practitioner advances.
Edrane treats concealed approaches as instruments of government. Its hereditary Occulter service maintains routes between the Far Reach and the inner system that outsiders cannot reliably chart. That work does not create a safe crossing through changing debris, authorize departure, or replace navigation command. Edrane still contracts Summoners for Shatter convoys, while Ravelin’s civil and navigation authorities decide which vessels may leave.
