Overview
The Record
Verdant Gate turns convoys into river traffic. Off-world vessels berth at its rings, move cargo through screening and transfer docks, and hand it to landers bound for Varosi riverports. Passengers follow the same route. Arrivals in good order usually continue within a day; the laboratories are reserved chiefly for material the port cannot identify through routine handling.
Food, medicines, fibers, seeds, and biological compounds make the reverse journey from Mareth Reach and other ports. The station receives them from landers, holds specimens under controlled conditions, seals freight for the long crossing, and releases it to a convoy when Varosi schedules permit. A delayed transfer usually means the Gate is busy, not that a cargo has failed inspection.
Foreign carriers maintain berths and offices but possess no authority over descent or release. Varosi port and navigation staff decide what moves and when, and the station can isolate one suspect hold without stopping the rest. Verdant Gate is built for transfer rather than ceremony. The captain in a hurry still waits on Varosi priorities.
Identity and Function
Function
The station assigns berths, screens arrivals, clears navigation, transfers passengers and cargo, isolates suspect material, and seals Varosi exports for convoy travel.
Identity and Function
Governance
Varosi port and navigation staff govern the station, descent schedules, screening, and transfer. Foreign carriers may lease berths and operate offices, but they cannot decide what descends, when it moves, or whether Varosi cargo is released to them.
Environment and Travel
Environment
A plain working station of docking rings, cargo spines, transfer docks, laboratories, and crew quarters has expanded in sections as traffic required. Internal divisions allow an unfamiliar cargo or suspect vessel to be isolated without closing the rest of the port.
