Faldris

City

Tharos’s principal fortress-city and internal command, built into a mountain wall to train, supply, and deploy companies under punishing gravity.

Overview

The Record

Faldris exists to turn Tharic strength into organized service. Senior commanders direct local defense, training, supply, company structure, and the deployments owed to Othryn from within a fortress-city fused into a mountain wall. Broad stone streets, recessed spacecraft yards, immense gates, training courts, and reinforced districts spread from the mountain’s base across a defended basin.

High gravity determines every proportion. Buildings are low, massive, and deeply founded because lighter construction fails quickly. Public spaces leave room for controlled movement, and monumental stone is structural necessity rather than display. The atmosphere is breathable but dense; heat and quarry dust collect in the basin, while a fall or careless lift carries consequences visitors from lighter moons routinely underestimate.

Internal command remains Tharic. Faldris decides how companies train, organize, supply themselves, defend the moon, and fulfill a call. Othryn determines the wider military obligation, provides strategic protection, and speaks for the relationship beyond Tharos. The arrangement gives Faldris command without sovereignty: a local crest orders a company, while an Othryni warrant carries it through the Grasp.

The companies keep Menders rather than Kindlers, and a Mender’s judgment on fitness to march overrides pressure from an officer or schedule. That authority expresses Faldris’s preferred form of Dawn practice: restoration joined to readiness, controlled strength, and public duty. The arrival yards follow the same order. Military traffic and essential supply move first; authorized civilian visitors wait, acclimate, and enter a city that does not weaken its routines to make lighter bodies feel at home.

Identity and Function

Function

Faldris directs Tharos’s local defense, training, supply, company organization, and fulfillment of military obligations to Othryn. Its recessed arrival yards receive returning formations, deployment traffic, essential cargo, and authorized civilians within the fortified city.

Identity and Function

Governance

Senior Tharic commanders at Faldris control the moon’s fortress-cities, companies, training, internal defense, and the practical means by which deployments are fulfilled. Othryn determines wider obligations under the vassal oath, provides strategic protection, and speaks with superior authority in system-level agreements. A Tharic crest carries local command; Othryn’s warrant governs beyond the moon.

Environment and Travel

Environment

Faldris is fused into the base and lower face of a massive mountain above a fortified basin. Low, broad, deeply founded stone buildings, recessed spacecraft yards, immense gates, training courts, and reinforced districts withstand Tharos’s high gravity. The atmosphere is breathable but dense, and heat and quarry dust gather within the basin.

Environment and Travel

Travel Notes

Land only at a designated recessed yard under a declared receiving command or institution. Defense movements, deploying or returning companies, training detachments, and essential supply take priority over civilian schedules. Arrival permission does not open ranges, fortress interiors, or order houses. Visitors from lighter worlds should acclimate to the gravity and dense atmosphere before surface travel or physical work.

Culture

The Twofold

Faldris associates Dawn with disciplined action, readiness, public duty, and the decision to act once deliberation ends. Its rites honor controlled strength and service rather than conquest. Companies keep Menders rather than Kindlers, and a Mender’s judgment on whether an injured soldier can return to duty is final; among the ranks, restoring a crushed hand carries more standing than most formal grades.
