Overview
The Record
Marovar was built to confine labor. Its extraction galleries now hold 760,000 people in separately pressurized wards, each with its own air, maintenance, and compact of obligations. The old prison plan survives in bulkheads and access shafts, but not in the identities of the people behind them.
Names are chosen rather than inherited. Convictions have vanished from the surviving registers, and Marovar’s settled answer to any inquiry is that the old sentences are not information the wards possess. Public compacts govern exchange between neighborhoods precisely because private history does not. No Effacer has ever been produced, yet stories of erased records occupy the place that founding myths hold elsewhere.
Edrane never surrendered the claim or closed the Eirenor ministry created to administer it. The ministry appoints officials, assesses tribute, and issues instructions. Local sponsors decide what those instructions can accomplish past the dock. Marovar remains a chartered dependency in law and a federation of hard, self-governing wards in practice.
That contradiction is the settlement’s purpose and its limit. Edrane provides the recognized warrant by which ships approach and Marovar trades; the wards provide the cooperation without which no census, order, or contract can be carried out. Neither side can make the other arrangement disappear without losing something it still needs.

- Edrane
Marovar is an Edrani chartered dependency administered on paper by the ministry in Eirenor that was created for the penal colony and never closed. Edrane appoints officials, assesses tribute, issues external warrants, and represents the holding beyond the moon.
The wards govern daily life through public compacts and local sponsorship. The ministry’s authority is legally intact but operationally thin because its inherited registers cannot establish the identities or sentences on which the original administration depended. Marovar’s emblem is institutional, not sovereign.

Physical Characteristics
Ground and Sky
- Diameter510 km
- Mass0.0000163 Earth masses
- Gravity0.01 g
Marovar is airless outside. Its former extraction and penal galleries form separate pressure networks, so neighboring wards may maintain different air quality, temperature, and safety margins. Bulkheads isolate failures but also turn maintenance into local political power. Surface movement requires vacuum equipment, and a pressure clearance from one ward does not guarantee entry to the next.

- Orbital Radius12,050,000 km
- Orbital Period156.11 days
- Rotation22.7 hours
- Inclination169.5 degrees
- Eccentricity0.025
Marovar rotates once every 22.7 standard hours while following a steep retrograde orbit around Oranth that takes 156.11 standard days. Oranth rises and sets at this distance rather than remaining fixed. Surface light matters to docking and thermal control, but life underground follows ward clocks, which are local civic standards rather than a moon-wide time.
Culture
The Twofold
Marovar tells Effacer stories the way other worlds tell founding myths, and every story ends with a record that no longer exists. No practitioner has ever been produced, no surviving registry contains the old convictions, and the wards offer no explanation. Whether the absence is Effacer work, institutional collapse, or something else remains unresolved.
Travel
Travel Notes
Service is irregular and politically sensitive. An Edrani warrant clears a vessel to approach the recognized dock, but movement beyond it requires a sponsor accepted by the destination ward. Travelers should arrange pressure access and local escort before arrival; an Edrani appointment can open the outer hatch and still accomplish nothing inside.
