Stormguard

Shelter against the outer storms

A joint Edrani-Koravelan rescue station that shelters Far Reach convoys from radiation, debris, magnetic storms, and cascading vessel failures.

Overview

The Record

Stormguard exists so a convoy emergency does not become a convoy grave. Rescue craft, shielded docks, medical facilities, refuge compartments, and emergency stores support vessels caught by radiation, debris, magnetic storms, or damage that cannot wait for the next settled moon.

The station maintains a permanent readiness system rather than a commercial port. Independent air and power reserves let refuge compartments receive stranded crews while damaged or contaminated ships remain isolated. Civilian vessels may shelter during a declared hazard and must depart when the protected corridor reopens.

Edrane and Koravel operate Stormguard jointly. Edrane supplies convoy forecasts, traffic coordination, and route authority; Koravel supplies hardened construction, defensive crews, and emergency discipline. Neither contribution is sufficient alone, which prevents the station from becoming an ordinary outpost of either power.

Dawn practitioners locate vessels, coordinate rescue, and sustain survivors through recovery. Gloam practitioners hold shelter around vulnerable crews and help damaged craft keep to assigned rescue corridors when conditions are obscured or disrupted. Stormguard can preserve lives and reopen a route; it cannot make the outer weather predictable.

Edrane

Stormguard is jointly operated by Edrane and Koravel. Edrane coordinates convoy traffic, forecasts, and route priorities; Koravel supplies hardened infrastructure, defensive personnel, and emergency discipline. The station has operational authority over rescue and shelter, not sovereignty over surrounding routes.

Its shared rescue mark is an operational emblem rather than a political crest.

Physical Characteristics

Ground and Sky

  • Diameter26 km
  • Mass0.000000000005 Earth masses
  • Gravity0.22 g

Stormguard is sealed against vacuum and heavily shielded from radiation. Emergency refuge compartments maintain independent air and power reserves so stranded crews can be received without exposing the station to a damaged vessel’s contamination or pressure failure.

Orbit and Time

Path Around Oranth

  • Orbital Order775
  • Orbital Radius13,180,000 km
  • Orbital Period178.49 days
  • Rotation20 hours
  • Inclination165 degrees
  • Eccentricity0.026

Stormguard follows a retrograde 178.49-standard-day orbit while maintaining a controlled twenty-hour attitude and lighting cycle. Readiness watches answer magnetic, debris, and convoy forecasts rather than exterior daylight, allowing rescue crews to change posture without changing the station’s civil clock.

Culture

The Twofold

Dawn practitioners locate endangered vessels, coordinate rescue, and support survivors through treatment and renewed purpose. Gloam practitioners shield vulnerable crews and guide craft through obscured or disrupted conditions. Practice remains subordinate to rescue command and does not replace instrument tracking or hazard forecasts.

Travel

Travel Notes

Stormguard accepts emergency traffic but is not a general commercial port. Declare damage, contamination, medical need, and remaining maneuver capacity before approach so control can assign a refuge compartment or holding line. Civilian vessels shelter during declared hazards and depart when the protected corridor reopens.
