Overview
The Record
Dovara is a refuge moon founded by people displaced from many worlds, wars, and failed settlements. Its communities occupy sheltered basins joined by mutual-aid compacts rather than by common ancestry. Languages, customs, and household names deliberately remain mixed. Dovara asks its people to build a shared life, but never to pretend they all came from the same one.
The moon has a thin, cold atmosphere composed primarily of nitrogen and oxygen. It is marginally breathable within the deepest warmed basins, though prolonged exposure remains difficult and weather can make it dangerous without warning. Homes, schools, markets, and public halls are therefore enclosed, with pressure gates separating settlement districts. Heat and air are managed communally, and damage to one district is answered by every neighboring community whose systems can support it.
Dovara governs itself through the Hearth Assembly, which controls citizenship, internal law, settlement rights, and the mutual obligations between communities. The moon is protected by Edrane, which provides defense, convoy support, and representation beyond the Far Reach without appointing Dovara’s rulers. The arrangement is protective rather than colonial: Edrane speaks for Dovara only where defense or foreign recognition requires it.
Each community retains the mark carried by its founders. Dovara’s shared hearth emblem appears in meeting halls, relief stores, and public shelters, but it is a cultural sign rather than a sovereign crest. It represents the promise that no settlement will be left to fail alone. Edrane’s name appears only upon external warrants, defense agreements, and protected convoys.
Dovara was founded by people who had to begin again, and its public ceremonies are careful never to describe that as starting fresh. Nothing lost is made less real by what was built afterward. Displaced languages, ancestral names, and the records of vanished homes are kept by households and founding communities rather than gathered into a single official tradition. The earliest compact established that belonging to Dovara would never require surrendering the place from which a person came.
Convoys are infrequent but dependable when sponsored by Edrane. New arrivals must be accepted by a receiving community or admitted under a Hearth Assembly warrant, since every additional resident must be guaranteed heat, air, housing, and food. During evacuations and humanitarian emergencies, refugee vessels receive priority over ordinary cargo. Dovara remembers too clearly what it means to wait outside a closed port.

- Edrane
Dovara is a self-governing refuge realm under Edrani protection. The Hearth Assembly controls citizenship, settlement rights, internal law, and relations among the basin communities. Edrane provides defense, convoy support, and representation in foreign courts but holds no right to appoint Dovara’s rulers or interfere in its domestic affairs.

Physical Characteristics
Ground and Sky
- Diameter1,390 km
- Mass0.0007534 Earth masses
- Gravity0.06 g
Dovara has a thin, cold atmosphere composed primarily of nitrogen and oxygen. It is marginally breathable within the deepest warmed basins, though prolonged exposure remains unsafe. Most homes, markets, and public buildings are enclosed, with pressure gates separating settlement districts so that a failure in one does not endanger the rest.
Orbit and Time
Path Around Oranth
- Orbital Order790
- Orbital Radius13,550,000 km
- Orbital Period186.148 days
- Rotation29.6 hours
- Inclination164.2 degrees
- Eccentricity0.028
Dovara follows a retrograde orbit around Oranth and completes one rotation every 29.6 hours. The walls of its deep inhabited basins limit direct light, leaving many settlements in long periods of angled daylight and shadow. Once Vya and Veo fall from view, the thin atmosphere loses heat rapidly, and survival depends upon communal heating networks that remain active throughout the night.
Culture
The Twofold
Dovara received refugees from more than a dozen worlds, and their Twofold practitioners arrived with them. Across the basin settlements are Kindlers, Cellarers, and a Mender whose training can no longer be traced to any surviving school. Their rites, titles, and explanations often contradict one another, even when the work they perform is much the same.
No common doctrine has been imposed, and the Hearth Assembly does not regard that absence as a failure. On Dovara, disagreement between inherited traditions is not a problem to be solved. It is evidence that those traditions survived the journey.

Travel Notes
Convoys are infrequent but dependable when sponsored by Edrane. New arrivals need a receiving community or Hearth Assembly warrant; refugee traffic receives priority during emergencies.
