Saint’s Rest

Shelter beneath the long road

A Serathi-protected sanctuary station where damaged vessels, displaced travelers, pilgrims, and disputing parties may claim temporary refuge.

Overview

The Record

Saint’s Rest gives vessels and travelers a place to become safe before they are required to explain why they need safety. Damaged ships, pilgrims, displaced people, and parties seeking mediation may claim temporary refuge in protected docks and halls along the principal routes of the Embrace.

A permanent population of 32,000 maintains the station, which can receive as many as 90,000 visitors. Independent refuge compartments have separate air systems, allowing custodians to shelter a damaged ship, quarantine an arrival, or separate hostile parties without closing the inhabited rings.

Independent custodians govern under a sanctuary covenant protected by Serath. Any vessel may request emergency shelter, but sanctuary does not suspend the Binding, excuse violence inside the station, or create immunity from lawful claims. Weapons remain sealed aboard or are surrendered at entry, and commercial docking is restricted so refuge capacity cannot be bought out by ordinary traffic.

Dawn practice guides reconciliation and renewed purpose. Gloam protects grief, confidential testimony, and vulnerable identities during mediation. The station can offer time, separation, and a protected hearing; it cannot compel peace after a guest leaves its halls.

Serath

Saint’s Rest is governed by independent custodians under a sanctuary covenant recognized and protected by Serath. The custodians control admission, compartment assignment, mediation procedure, and safety within the station. Serath guarantees the covenant and external protection without administering individual cases.

A simple sanctuary mark identifies protected docks and refuge halls; it is an institutional emblem, not a sovereign crest.

Physical Characteristics

Ground and Sky

  • Diameter18 km
  • Mass0.000000000002 Earth masses
  • Gravity0.25 g

Saint’s Rest maintains a warm nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere in its inhabited rings. Refuge compartments use independent air systems, allowing damaged ships, quarantined arrivals, or hostile parties to be isolated without endangering the wider station. Fire, contamination, and pressure loss are managed compartment by compartment.

Refuge compartments may maintain separate clocks for medical or quarantine needs.

Culture

The Twofold

Dawn practitioners guide reconciliation, orientation, and the work of beginning again after rescue or displacement. Gloam practitioners protect grief, confidential testimony, and identities whose disclosure would endanger a guest or prejudice mediation. Neither practice overrides the custodians’ safety rules or turns sanctuary into immunity.

Travel

Travel Notes

Any vessel may request emergency shelter and will be assigned a protected dock or holding approach according to damage, quarantine risk, and available capacity. Weapons remain sealed aboard or are surrendered at entry. Commercial docking is limited, and a refuge request does not authorize cargo trading or unrestricted movement through the station.
